This editorial illustration series was inspired by an article published in The Guardian covering the devastating wildfires that swept across southern Europe during the summer of 2026. The heatwaves and wildfires across Europe and the US were dominating the news recently and I felt the need to illustrate how firefighters are racing against time to contain the rapidly spreading fires.

As prolonged heatwaves, drought, and strong winds fuel increasingly destructive fire seasons, countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Italy are facing a growing reality: wildfires are no longer isolated disasters but a recurring consequence of a warming climate. Beyond the immediate destruction of forests, homes, and infrastructure, these events have profound impacts on ecosystems, public health, local communities, and emergency services.

Created in response to this article, the two illustrations explore the urgency and complexity of reporting on climate-related disasters through conceptual editorial illustration, translating current events into compelling visual narratives.
